Episode 070: Dainbramage - Return of the Funk

<img src="http://districtignition.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1102525/0x0_1956036.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />District Ignition had CUE Radio frontmen Carter and Paul as guest dj's at our weekly event, Snatch, this past Friday and it was an awesome night filled with some bangin' funky music. The night was a blast, and while I always enjoy dj'ing, I had a particularly great time playing the closing set. This podcast catches a little of that vibe, enjoy!

Episode 052 - DJ 2rip - FREQ THE FUNK [mixed on 4 turntables]

<img src="http://districtignition.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1102525/0x0_1540596.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />This mix was originally inspired by DJ Dan's "Tribute to James Brown" mix from 1993. After speaking with Dan recently he told me that he made that mix during a time where everyone in the rave scene was playing harder techno. "Tribute" was essentially his way of going against the grain of what everyone else was doing at the time.

Recently I've sensed a need to go against the grain myself. My sets have become more diverse and in turn has inspired me to become more creative in the way I build my sets. While this mix stays consistent within one genre I feel that it has given me a way to express myself in a different way as well as give you all something new to "chew on."

FREQ THE FUNK was mixed on 4 turntables and the majority of my techniques relied on beat drops, scratching, cutting, looping and filtering.

Omegaman - Disco Love (Featurecast Remix)
All Good Funk Alliance - Top Brass
All Good Funk Alliance - Super Jam
Javier Morillas - Poozloop
Fdel - Get Up On Ya Feet
Featurecast - Sling Shot Boogie
Omegaman - Super Hi-Fi Funk (B Team Remix)

Episode 047 - Thomas Penton Live @ Rogue in Buenos Aires

<img src="http://districtignition.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1102525/0x0_1442720.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />On Halloween of 2008 we featured Thomas Penton as a surprise guest performance at SNATCH - our weekly party hosted on the basement level of Ultrabar at 911 F St NW. The night was packed to the brim and Thomas laid down a well programmed set.

Thoma Penton is a name that rings bells to those who followed progressive house through the nineties. His first appearances were on Fade Records and well as Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label. Deep into the millenium his tracks have been featured on the playlists of dj's like Steve Lawler and even Armin Van Buuren.

Keep an eye out for Thomas Penton's upcoming release with Steve Prior called "Shift Cycle" on One Love Music. Also prepare your livers for the first resident night at Snatch in nearly a year. This Friday, December 19th you can hear LJ MTX, Christauff & Ciconte for free by responding to our guestlist at snatchlist@districtignition.com.

I started out a trance DJ and recently started listening to it again. I'm not going to stop playing house, I just wanted to diversify.

I think trance can be a bad word among D.C. area DJs and that made me feel a bit apprehensive putting this mix out there, but really, I liked the tracks so much I decided to do it anyway. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

<itunes:summary>This is a trance mix. Surprised? I started out a trance DJ and recently started listening to it again. I'm not going to stop playing house, I just wanted to diversify.

I think trance can be a bad word among D.C. area DJs and that made me feel a bit apprehensive putting this mix out there, but really, I liked the tracks so much I decided to do it anyway. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Episode 038: DJ 2rip - Live @ Gloween 2007

On Halloween weekend of 2007 District Ignition deejays 2rip, Ramz & Christauff shook the floor at Ibiza Nightclub for another memorable takeover.

At 2am Mr. 2rip jumped on the decks for an onslaught of fast-mixed chart toppers by Dubfire. After the third track the music cut off for the costume contest. This is where the mix begins. The whole session was about 2 hours long. This week's podcast gives you a glimpse of 45 minutes of that classic set.

This year Halloween falls on a Friday so District Ignition will be hosting Snatch-O-Lantern in the basement of Ultrabar as part of their weekly Snatch lineup. Be sure to get on the guestlist if you plan to attend this event. Guestlist inquiries for all Snatch parties can be directed to snatchlist@districtignition.com.

"This is a little mix I did back in 2003. It's got some tech elements, some proggy stuff and a bit of funk. I don't remember what the names of the songs are so obviously I won't be posting a track listing, but there's some stuff you might recognize. One final tidbit, the sound is a little muffled on the recording, so crank the stereo and enjoy!" - Dainbramage

<itunes:summary>"This is a little mix I did back in 2003.

Episode 32: DJ 2rip - My Acid Experience

"This week is quite a bit different from my previous podcasts. I didn't really hold anything back and played some of the harder tunes that I've been enjoying lately. It is certainly not a mix that you would ever hear from me at a nightclub, however it mimics what I play at raves when people are ready for it. After a few banging techno tracks I lay down a series of acid riffs that will no doubt pummel your ears through to the completion of the mix. This set is all about the aggression we hold in and the release that music can give us to diffuse whatever it is that we've been keeping to ourselves. And the last few tracks are certainly my continued tribute to the use of acid melodies in today's electronic dance music." - DJ 2rip

Wehba - Vagabundos Anthem
Axel Karakasis - Under Water (Spiros Kaloumenos Remix)
Spiros Kaloumenos - Analog Wax
Mark Ankh - Bang Bang
Ben Fraser - Zero Tolerance

Podcast 28: Christauff - Dirty Summer Soundscape

Jaytech (www.myspace.com/jaytech) features prominently in this mix. I think the world of his production. I also just heard Hatiras a few weeks back, and he is one hell of a live DJ. This mix is an ode the banging music Hatiras turned me on to, as well as the lush progressive techie house of Jaytech. The Bit Crusher's track is my biggest favorite right now, beside the opener. Please enjoy!

<itunes:summary>Jaytech (www.myspace.com/jaytech) features prominently in this mix.

Podcast 25: Dainbramage - My Electro-Funk is Better Than Yours...

I've been having a lot of fun lately and this mix reflects it! I had the pleasure of opening for Hatiras (Blow Media) a couple weeks ago which was awesome, and more than a little humbling. (The man has serious skills!) Myself and District Ignition have also been privileged with all the major talent that's come through our parties in the last couple weeks including Max Graham, Hernan Cattaneo, and Tiesto to name a few, add to that the fact it's summer in DC and life is generally awesome. This mix has the requisite electro goodness, a touch of acid, properly bangin' funky house and of course, some dirty basslines. Hope you all enjoy!

Podcast 24: DJ 2rip - To Be Inspired...

"I won't lie. When it came my turn to put together this podcast I was not feeling inspired by music at all. I just gotten finished playing a series of gigs and was completely wiped out. I wanted to dig deep in my collection and find some tunes that I had not yet played out and that were fairly unknown to the public still. Instead I decided I would give everyone a taste of some tunes that were in my top 10 playlist for June 2008. The inspiration essentially came back as I thought about all of the awesome shows I did and all of the awesome people that rocked out to these songs. This mix is all about sticking to your guns." - DJ 2rip
